iPod 5.5 gen unable to restore (possible hardware issue?)
I got this iPod 5.5 gen from a friend who had it in storage for around 6-8 years. I’ve been trying unsuccessfully to fix it. Presented with a restore iPod screen when I first plugged it in, decided to take it apart and found that one of the ZIF pins looked strange. Isopropyl alcohol hasn’t helped much. I’ve tried replacing the battery, headphone jack, HDD ribbon cable, and even replaced the hard drive with an iflash solo. Nothing has helped. When connected to my apple computer the iPod shows up but gets error 1416 or 1432 during restore attempts. The iPod shows up as 1-2TB of storage in disk utility both with the 30GB hard drive or 32G sd card in my iflash. Is this ZIF socket dead? I just want to get this iPod working even if it’s a bit janky.
