My App’s Retention Is Terrible, But It Still Makes Money Without Paid Ads

My app is called Animal Twin.

The retention is almost nonexistent, but it still makes a small amount of money. I wanted to share some thoughts about that.

Animal Twin is an app that tells users which animal they look like.

Because of the nature of the app, most people use it once and don’t really have a reason to come back. Maybe they might open it again when hanging out with friends, but that’s about it.

So yes, the retention is terrible. But even without running paid marketing, new users keep coming in organically, and the app continues to generate revenue.

I also tried paid marketing to maximize ad revenue, but because the app has such low retention, it kept losing money, so I stopped.

It’s not a huge amount of money, but I wanted to share this as an example that even this kind of app structure can still generate some revenue.

If anyone has feedback on the app or paid marketing, I’d be happy to hear it.

How are apps with sexual images allowed to operate on Google Play?

According to Google Play Store policies, apps containing sexual content are not allowed.

I have actually tried publishing an AI character chat app where users could spend credits to view images showing female breasts or genitals, but the app was repeatedly removed or suspended.

However, I recently saw another AI character chat app on Google Play that appears to include images with exposed female breasts and even sexual intercourse. The explicit images are not openly shown right away; users seem to need to spend credits to view them.

Also, on the home screen, there are many characters who are not fully topless, but are still very revealing. I was surprised that the app is still operating normally, because my own app was rejected for similar reasons.

Does anyone know how these apps are able to stay on Google Play? Are they using some kind of moderation, region restriction, hidden content system, or is it just inconsistent enforcement?
