I always assumed Tom and Jerry were friends/enemies in the same house but in this episode suddenly Tom's a professional mouse catcher flying in all the way from USA to catch Jerry in Spain.

Either in this episode the mouse isn't Jerry but some random spanish mouse who is a Jerry lookalike (but why is this episode called "tom and jerry" then?), or tom and jerry are just fictional actors like Family Guy. They've been actors all along. every single episode. Maybe that explains why all those the bombs and gun blasts and trains never kill them.

Edit: just thought of something else. I'm high while whatching this. At the end of the episode >!tom gives up and starts lazing with the orange cat!<. Now strangely I get the feeling i've seen the woman who owns the orange cat, in a couple other episodes. maybe the orange cat died some day and left tom all alone with that woman and jerry, setting up a ton of episode plots. So maybe tom and jerry are canonically Spanish.
