DMs of Reddit: How do you handle ambient music without losing your mind?

Hey everyone!

I'm doing a bit of research on how DMs handle the audio atmosphere during live, in-person games. I’m really curious about the community's workflow and the everyday challenges that come with it.

I’d love it if you could share your experiences and answer a few quick questions:

  • Do you use ambient music or sound effects in your games?
  • If so, how do you manage it currently? (Do you use your phone or laptop? Spotify, YouTube, physical soundboards, or specific software?)
  • What are your biggest problems or frustrations with your current method? (Does searching for a track ruin the pacing? Annoying ads? Is it too clunky to switch to combat music by surprise?)

Any insights, complaints, or details about your current audio setup at the table would be incredibly helpful.

Thanks in advance, and may your dice roll high!
