Advice needed: Used Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max (7-seater) vs. a FWD Hybrid? (60k-75k AED budget)

Hey everyone,

I'm currently based in Abu Dhabi and looking to buy a used SUV. My budget is around 60,000 to 70,000 AED, though I could stretch it to 75k for the right vehicle. I'm torn between a few routes and would love your insights, especially regarding the local market.

Option 1: Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max (Used)

I’m considering a used model driven around 20,000 to 30,000 km. I'm specifically looking for the AWD version with a sunroof and 7 seats, which seems to fall right into that 60k–70k AED range.

Option 2: tiggo 8 pro max 5-Seater Hybrid (FWD)

Alternatively, I’m thinking about stretching the budget to about 75,000 AED for a 5-seater, Front-Wheel Drive hybrid. Since it's mainly just for my wife, my daughter, and me, 5 seats are plenty, and the fuel savings sound great for daily driving. Is the hybrid premium worth it at this price point?

Option 3: Something else entirely?

If you had a 60k–70k AED budget for a reliable SUV in the UAE, what would you recommend? Are there better alternatives I should be looking at ?

Appreciate any advice or personal experiences!

Thinking of buying a 2BR in Abu Dhabi to live in instead of renting good idea? Where do I get the most space for my budget?

Looking for some honest opinions and local knowledge here.

Right now I pay around AED 60k–70k a year in rent, and it feels like money disappearing. I'm seriously considering buying a 2-bedroom apartment to live in instead. I have about AED 300k cash for the down payment and would cover the rest through a mortgage / installments.

A few things about my situation:

  • My current lease runs until April 2027, so I have time to plan and I'm not in a rush.
  • I work near WTC Mall (downtown), so a reasonable commute matters to me.
  • Budget is on the tighter side, so I'm trying to get the biggest usable space for the money rather than the flashiest building.

My questions:

  1. For someone in my position, does buying-to-live actually make financial sense here, or is renting still smarter once you factor in service charges, mortgage fees, and resale liquidity?
  2. Which areas/communities give the most space per dirham for a 2BR? I keep hearing about Al Reef, Al Ghadeer, Reem, Al Raha Beach, Yas, Saadiyat, etc., but I'd love real input on space vs. price vs. commute to downtown.
  3. Anything I should watch out for high service charges, off-plan vs. ready, developer reputation, hidden costs?

Would really appreciate hearing from people who've made this jump (or decided not to) in AD. Thanks!
