Took a picture on the beach, but the hand covered part of the flash so half of the picture (other half hidden for privacy) was very dark, while the rest and the subject are well-lit by the flash. How would I go about making the lighting seem even/as though the flash wasn't covered?

Soon I’ll be moving near the coast in Florida and am really worried about the rusting out of my 2000 integra. Anyone have any recommendations/tips to avoid rust? I’d like to keep this car for a while so the less rust the better. I’ve heard of undercoating, but I’m really not sure what the best/most long-term solutions are.
