Disney Star Wars is cooked

In its third weekend it got beat at the box office by three indie movies by YouTubers, none of whom have had a theatrical release before and one of which is the finale to a web cartoon that will air on YouTube in two weeks and is in half as many countries.

General thoughts on the show, Gooseworx, and the fandom (No Spoilers)

I have much to say about the finale and the show as a whole, but right now I just want to say that I think that a neurodivergent queer woman was dealing with mental illness and felt isolated from the world, and found solace in existentialist science fiction and 90s video games and internet subcultures. She took all of this to tell a weird story about trauma, depression, identity, and learning to trust others. This was an incredibly niche passion project that somehow was viewed by hundreds of millions around the world, and I feel like that’s where the friction between Goose and the fandom comes from. Even after all of this, I think it should be celebrated that this bizarre story about cute cartoon characters who hate their lives became a phenomenon with twelve year olds losing their shit at screenings, and I genuinely hope Goose continues to make stories beyond TADC. And if she doesn’t, I still appreciate that she brought this world to life.
