Arytenoid Cartilage VS False Chord

For years, I’ve been screaming and have built a life in Nashville around it. I’ve been incredibly blessed over the past two years to build strong industry connections in both metalcore and deathcore.

With all of that said, yesterday I learned the difference between false cord and arytenoid cartilage distortion. For years, I thought I was doing false cord vocals, but I’ve actually been relying heavily on arytenoid rattle. It’s still a valid and respected scream style, but it isn’t the sound I’ve been looking for and it’s my harder to shape through resonance than it should be.

For those of you who have been screaming longer than I have, I’ve been doing vocals for about five years, what helped you strip away the arytenoid rattle and retrain yourself into a more traditional false cord technique?

I’m trying to rebuild my foundation correctly without destroying the strengths I already have. Any tips on airflow, relaxation, placement, or exercises that helped you separate the two would seriously help.

Music Marketing Advice

Hey!! My name is Ryan, and I front an unreleased deathcore band out of Nashville/LA/Milwaukee. I had a few questions about marketing and frankly this will be a longer post to provide context.

I’ve hopped local bands for years leading up until June-ish of last year when I founded the group I’m in now. I was tired of doing local music and wanted to get into some more extreme music. We are a four piece and 3/4 of us have decent involvement in the deathcore industry just due to good networking.

We have had the opportunity to ask questions and pick the brains some of the folks from Angelmaker, Synestia, and several other bands of that size and genre and have direct access to a decently sized network of support for quick questions. I’m coming here because we have a goal and a budget. We have a 2,500 marketing budget for a 5 song EP. This does not include videos+photoshoot and art this is simply for promotion. The music is good, well thought out, and on par with much larger bands. We are hoping to attain numbers in the 230,000-1,000,000 stream range on our strong songs and 25,000-75,000 on our weak songs. We aim for 20-45k monthly listeners within a year of our release. How can we achieve this or what are some tips, tricks, pointers, for success?

NOTE: I know this may sound unattainable or even cocky to ask. This has been a dream for a long time and now that we finally have some sentiment of traction pre-release I want to utilize and optimize any and all marketing.

Looking for LA-based photographer (Deathcore band promo shoot)

Hey, we’re an unreleased deathcore band getting ready for our first release and we’re looking for a photographer in LA to shoot some promo images.

We’ll be in LA from 6/24–6/28 and want to lock in a shoot during that time.

We’re going for something dark, high-quality, and fitting the genre. If you’re interested, drop a comment!
