Hardcore Genlocke part 1: Yellow

I started a genlocke a while ago, but abandoned it somewhere halfway through crystal. I restarted and this time I am commited to see it through.

Pokemon yellow went great. Few deaths and few stress moments. And my pikachu lived!

Rules:

*If a pokemon faints, it is considered dead

*I can only catch the first pokemon I encounter per location

*All my pokemon must be nicknamed

*Playing on 'set' mode

*No overleveling beyond the gym leader's ace

*Only using same amount of pokemon as the gym leader uses

*No healing during battle (except held items)

*Have to finish all trainers on a route, no backtracking to the pokemon centre

*The surviving champions will be carried over to the next game

*Retired and dead pokemon (and their entire evolution lines) cannot be used for the rest of the genlocke

*Surviving champions can join my team at lvl 5, by replacing an encounter, whenever I choose

My champions:

*Cheese the Pikachu - I am so glad that Cheese survived the whole run! It adds something extra to yellow having him walk behind me. Did some good work at the beginning, but for the most of the second half of the game, I just focused on keeping him alive and used him almost solely for water pokemon, Lorelei and Lance's Gyarados

*Veggie the Venusaur - Less usable then I thought it would be. Did not contribute much. But I just love starter pokemon, so I am glad to take it with me to Johto. Was very helpful in the end by putting rival's Jolteon to sleep

*Asparagus the Alakazam - Busted as hell and probably the mvp of this run. Very strong against many of the gym leaders, destroyed Bruno and Agatha by itself and solid against my rival. A frail glass cannon though, so always scary to switch in

*Lemonade the Lapras - Also one of the best. Bulky, strong, great moveset, just overall busted. Could probably solo the whole second half of the game. Contributed even more then Asparagus

*Avocado the Aerodactyl - Late addition, after the tragic death of my Charizard and I wanted someone that can use Fly for comfort reasons. A shallow movepool but very fast and powerful. Did some work against ground types

*Steak the Snorlax - Also a late addition. Was thinking about trying to take Primeape or Wigglytuff to the end. But Snorlax is just so powerful. I did not want to make it too hard for myself. Was a save switch-in against almost anything and hit like a truck

Retired:

*Radish the Raticate - Very strong early game. And played a pivotal role against Brock, for I failed to catch a Mankey, Nidoran or Caterpie before the first gym

*Whisky the Wigglytuff - Was a pain to level up, but fun to work with. Can hit quite hard. But in the end, Snorlax just outshines it and it's not cool enough to claim a spot in my final team

*Pepper the Primeape - Also a contender to be in my final 6, but chose Snorlax as a saver switch in against possibly troublesome mons like Alakazam and Jolteon. Did beat Lt. Surge his Raichu, which was necessary because of my lack of ground type pokemon

Deaths:

*Flan the Fearow - I was very scared of the fissure attack this particular Sandshrew knows. Too afraid to switch in Veggie or Radish. Flan the Fearow stayed in too long and got killed by a critical hit slash

*Piri the Pidgeotto - Piri the Pidgeotto was underleveled, because I planned to box it. But still scared of the Sandshrew, I used it anyway. Almost killed it, leaving it in the red. But it was just not enough. Need to mention that Piri and Radish have beaten Brock together. Sand attack and tail whip for the win!

*Hummus the Drowzee - Hummus the Drowzee was not with the team long. Died to a selfdestructing Geodude. God, I hate selfdestruct

*Cheetos the Charizard - This one hurted the most. I decided to add to my challenge that I also have to kill all the legendaries. But since when does ice do neutral damage to fire?! Apparently gen 1 only, sigh. Lost Cheetos to the fight against Articuno. One super effective ice beam was enough
