Pokopia Research - Cloud Islands
First in the style of a series of sorts involving info regarding specific parts of Pokopia and it's mechanics, based on personal experience and research from the last 2+ months. I had intended for this to all be one big list for reference, but turns out it ends up being more than 5 times the character limit, so thought I'd post it in relevant, more compact chunks instead (which also makes it easier to update if needed).
Apologies if it's a bit of a text wall, as Reddit really doesn't like more than 2 layers for lists, I tried to format it to be as reader-friendly as I could make it.
If you have any other info that's relevant, please do let me know.
Today's research infodump - Cloud Islands!
Cloud Islands
- Function
- Similar to Palette Town in that it’s a Sandbox area for you to change as you like that won’t affect Story Areas
- The difference is that it has unique rules and its own Pokedex (and requires NSO to access)
- Backup Saves
- When on your 'main game', you can Backup Save the Cloud Island
- After that, you can still play on your Cloud Island, just that using “Restore” on the Backup will omit any progress on the Cloud Island since the last Backup Save
- The alert about Restoring the Cloud Island deleting the current one just means that it’ll overwrite whatever Cloud Island is in place (even if it’s a different version of the same island that was worked on after the Backup Save was done)
- You can also use this to save your current Cloud Island, cycle through some random (or specific) islands to see what the biomes look like, then reload your original island if you don’t like what you find
- Copy Move Powerups
- While you can’t bring items over with you (including Cooked Food), any Powerups already in effect will still be in effect when you move to the Cloud Island
- Dailies
- Just like the main game, the Cloud Island has its own Daily Challenges and Daily Shop
- Even if you don’t intend to build up the Cloud Island, you should still visit each day to check, as the Daily Shop is different from the main game Daily Shop
- Dream Islands
- Works just the same as Dream Islands in the main game
- Meaning that while the items found are set to the main game or the Cloud Island, you can visit up to 2 Dream Islands a day if searching for recipes/habitat info/notes
- Fast-Travel
- If you don’t have a Home set for Ditto, fast-traveling will instead warp you to the PokeCenter
- Followers
- Occasionally, a Pokemon will ask to tag along when you visit a Cloud Island
- Going Back
- If you have a completed Challenge you haven’t turned in and try to head back to the main game, it’ll alert you and ask if you’re sure you want to leave
- You can leave the Cloud Island from the PokeCenter PC or by pressing Select on the Menu
- You can also head back to the main game while visiting a Dream Island from the Cloud Island (though you’ll still get an alert if any Challenges still need turning in)
- Habitats
- You’ll still have your Habitat Dex, which has an upside and a downside
- The upside is that you can quick reference what Habitats you need to fill out the Cloud Island Dex
- The downside is that it shows Pokemon discovered at those Habitats based on your main game, not the Cloud Island
- How to Check Your Own Cloud Island’s ‘Magic Number’
- At the PC, choose Link Play, then select Check Settings, then Cloud Island Settings
- Scroll down and you’ll see the 9-digit code that serves as the ‘Magic Number’ for your Cloud Island
- That number is the ‘seed’ for your Cloud Island, so anyone using the same Magic Number will get the same arrangement of biomes and the same placement for the PokeCenter
- Items
- All items from the main game are left behind when visiting the Cloud Island, but all items on the Cloud Island are left behind when returning to the main game
- Anything in Storage Crates won’t be affected, but anything in your Inventory when you leave the Cloud Island will be stored in the PC when leave
- Limited Visits Daily
- You can only visit a Cloud Island up to 15 times a day (physically visiting, not Virtual visits via Mysterious Goggles)
- Which sounds like a lot, but you can go through a lot of islands trying to get recipes
- The good news is that it doesn’t seem to include islands that you own, even if you delete it and make a new one over and over trying to find a good seed for the Cloud Island
- Link Play and Mystery Goggles
- Link Play lets you visit your own Cloud Island or other islands locally/via Link Code
- Mysterious Goggles let you visit a Cloud Island in “Virtual Mode”, which only lets you walk around and take pictures, not move or pick up items
- You can set your Cloud Island as “Virtual Mode Only” in Settings
- You get the Mysterious Goggles (to visit other Cloud Islands) at Withered Wastelands Environment Lv3
- They’re marked as a Key Item, so they can’t be Traded or destroyed, so if you can’t find ‘em, check all your Storage Crates (and Gulpin/Swalot’s Storage as well)
- Link Codes and Magic Numbers
- The former will take you to specific existing islands, while the latter are codes to create a specific type of layout for your own Cloud Island

- PokeCentered – Magic Numbers with the PokeCenter right in the middle of the island
- Managing Other Players
- When looking at the Menu, you can press Plus (+) for Player Options
- Kick A Player
- Boots a player off your Cloud Island (though obviously you can’t use this on yourself)
- Send A Report
- You can report a player’s island name/appearance (inappropriate terraforming shapes, etc.), or a player’s name/behavior
- Whatever your screen is seeing when you open the menu to send the report is the image that’ll be sent
- If you want to play it safe, you can also enable “Virtual Mode” which only allows visiting via Mysterious Goggles (so any actions they take are on a ‘copy’ of the island and aren’t saved)
- Party
- Occasionally, a Pokemon will ask to tag along when you head out to the Cloud Island, and will be added to your Party to join the trip if you agree
- While you can get some Friendship for letting them adventure with you (for some time, you can’t just pop out and back), there’s no downside to saying no
- If you end up removing them from the Party and forgetting to add them back into the Party before heading back to the main game, you can just spawn them back at their Habitat using Honey
- Pokedex
- There’s a separate Dex for the Cloud Island that you can view from the console next to the PC
- This doesn’t display the Dex entries, Habitats, or Specialties of the Pokemon, JUST the ones you’ve found on the Cloud Island as a list
- It’ll add any new additions one-by-one when you check it, so if you added a bunch of Pokemon since you last checked the Cloud Dex, best to press A to skip the animation of them being added one at a time
- PP
- Your PP is already set to full when you enter the Cloud Island (even if you were running on empty in the main game)
- While items like food aren’t brought over, any powerups you got from food eaten back in the main game will still be retained while you’re on the Cloud Island
- Any powerups will also be refilled to full when you first arrive, as long as you had the powerup active before visiting the Cloud Island
- Rules
- Almost everything you have is left behind when you visit the Cloud Island, with some exceptions:
- Copy Abilities
- Pokedex Entries
- Note that the Pokedex in your Menu reflects only the Pokedex from your main game, you have to use the one by the PC to see the Pokedex specific to the Cloud Island
- Habitat Dex Entries
- Collection Record
- Two minor bonuses with this:
- You won’t get repeat descriptors of items you’ve already collected before in the main game (which would delay the feed of showing what items you get)
- Any item you find and collect on the Cloud Island that you haven’t collected in the main game will be added to the Collection tab for both the main game and the Cloud Island
- Inventory Size
- All items are left behind, but any Packing Tips/Handy Bag upgrades you purchased in the main game apply on the Cloud Island
- Known Recipes
- Life Coins
- Any PP Up upgrades
- Single ‘Owned’ Cloud Island Limit
- You can recreate your Cloud Island as many times as you want, but if you use Link Trade and tell the PC to generate a random island or to generate an island using a magic number, your existing island will be overwritten
- Rest assured, it will strongly warn you before it lets you override it, to ensure you realize what will happen
- However, if you Backup Save your Cloud Island in the Cloud Island Settings (Link Play -> Check Settings -> Cloud Island Settings), you can restore that Cloud Island as needed by overwriting the existing Cloud Island
- Spectator Mode vs Virtual Mode
- They sound similar on the surface, but there are key differences
- Spectator Mode
- In this mode, the player (and a Pokemon in their Party, if they so desire) physically visits the island in question
- Player interaction on the island is limited by forbidding use of certain Copy Moves (Rock Smash, Cut, Rototiller, etc.) to prevent major changes, but they can still pick stuff up
- Spectator Mode can be enabled/disabled in Cloud Island Settings to prevent visitors from visiting in-person
- Virtual Mode
- In this mode, you only visit a ‘copy’ of the island instead of a ‘live’ version of the island
- Instead of needing to visit the PC, you can just put on the Mysterious Goggles (earned at Withered Wasteland Lv.3) and enter the code from there
- You can affect very little of the island (most Copy abilities don’t work except for movement, and you can’t move/pickup items, only interact with them)
- However, it’s a shared, persistent copy of the island that saves zero changes made by visitors, you can explore freely
- This mode can also be enabled/disabled in Cloud Island Settings (in addition to Spectator) if you just want to lock down your island from any visitors whatsoever
- Anyone trying to physically visit a Cloud Island that’s set to Virtual-Only Mode will get a message saying the island is “Not open to the public”
- This means Spectator Mode is disabled, but if Virtual Mode is allowed, you’ll still be able to visit a copy of the island using the Mysterious Goggles
- Stamps
- Just like your main game, the Cloud Island has its own Stamp each day, so you can check daily to fill out a Stamp Sheet faster or check rarity (as the Stamp can be different than the main game’s stamp)
- This applies even if you make a new Cloud Island, as each new Cloud Island will have it’s own Stamp reroll
- Star Pieces
- If you visit a Cloud Island in Multiplayer (Spectator) mode, you can use a Star Piece and gift it to a Pokemon there who you haven’t met yet
- In exchange, you’ll get a gift – open the gift at a habitat back in your own game and it’ll make that Pokemon appear in your game
- Unique Pokemon
- Pokemon that either have a unique specialty (and just appear on their own in the main game) or ones that don’t appear in the main game at all (like a non-Professor Tangrowth), with only a single Habitat they can appear from
- Chef Dente
- The Chef’s Kitchen
- Stylish Cooking Pot
- Modern Sink

After chasing Levee block lines underwater for awhile, think I recreated the Bleak Beach Plaza pathing close to how it originally was
