One thing I underestimated when building online projects
Something I underestimated when starting online projects was how difficult it is to make people stay interested after the first visit. Getting traffic feels hard until you realize retention is even harder.
I used to focus almost entirely on getting more eyes on a project, but lately I’ve been paying closer attention to smaller interactions. Replies, repeat visits, random feedback messages, even tiny conversations between users seem to matter more than numbers on a dashboard.
With FolkRealm, one thing I noticed is that people stayed longer whenever discussions felt natural and relaxed instead of overly structured. It made me rethink how I approach building communities online in general.
I’m still experimenting and figuring things out, but I’ve started appreciating slower growth that feels real over quick spikes that disappear after a day or two.
Curious if other founders here had the same realization at some point.
