Zorin wifi annoyances

  1. How can I keep the wifi "fan" icon permanently on the dash, i.e. solid-black when connected and open-outline when unconnected (so I can just click the darn thing and enter my login info instead of having to type "wifi" in the Zorin search field to find the relevant settings)
  2. I have an external Zorin utility drive; how do I disable the hardware-ID check for purposes of auto-connecting wifi each time I troubleshoot a different machine (each instance of this triggering the first listed annoyance above)?

Best modern-looking GUI Boot Manager for dual-booting?

I refurbish old computers, Macs in particular, and have recently become enamored of a dual-boot setup featuring Linux and Mac partitions on the same drive. I'd like a reasonably stylish bootmanager to greet the user at startup:

Choices considered so far:

Mac built-in alt/opt-key triggered loader. Pros: always works (with a *very* few exceptions of distros with a non-standard efi that the Mac loader can't "see"). Cons: requires user awareness of multiple operating-systems and what key-combo brings up the loader; non-Mac bootable objects have ugly dogear icons and indistinguishable "efi" names.

Opencore (OCLP). Pros: beautiful (especially if you have *many* OSes on the same system); installs from an app and front-loads at boot; sees everything. Cons: doesn't launch Linux partitions. (To be fair, OCLP's purpose is to facilitate MacOS versions on unsupported models). But I'd like to hope that a hack exists out there somewhere.)

rEFInd. Pros: as pretty as OCLP; works with Mac, Windows, Linux. Cons: requires terminal-fu to install, sensitive to random keypresses biffing partitions off the OS choice list; Linux launches have additional ugly verbose prefatory text that may interfere with fancy load graphics; is prone to breakage if Linux partition reinstalled, or the system RescueZilla'd to a different drive.

Grub. Pros: Mac-compatible. Cons: not beginner-friendly; default text choice screen too small on most high-resolution screens.

...What other choices exist circa here-and-now, or what GUI management tools exist allowing me to tweak the current offerings?

Trustworthy Lanosterol+NAC eyedrops source?

Looking for a reputable online seller (ideally US-based). Google floods search results under pages and pages of sketchy eBay sellers padded whose products I wonder are counterfeit placebos.

Currently restoring a bunch of intel-era iMacs, average spec 8/500 ram/drive. Most drives are rotational, and will be partitioned 4:1 or 3:2 mac/linux, with linux the latter, smaller partition. Will be using rEFInd bootloader. Usage: these will largely be home-use by people with zero CL experience.

Distro requirements:

* Mac drivers (including wifi) out-of-box

* Pleasing GUI appearance

* Very low background disk usage

* Auto-mounts Mac volumes

* Supports drag/drop copy/write to Mac volumes (assume permission granted Mac-side)

If these require manual adjustments, the settings must not be lost during updates.

-- Any new/improved distro toys for old Macs in the last year?
