Long story short my dad is getting a new car and is willing to gift me his used Honda Odyssey. I have a few options to consider, and I'm wondering what is the most responsible:
- keeping the car as is:
As an 8-seater SUV with ~20 MPG I'm not sure the car is ideal for my lifestyle as I am one, small dude who won't be having more than one or two people in my car ever at a time. I do believe the car is well taken care of however, and it could probably last another 10 years, but honestly I don't really like the car personally.
- downsizing to a smaller used hybrid:
I could realistically downsize to a cheaper hybrid car (like a Honda Accord or Toyota Prius with 35-40 MPG) to save on gas, but there are always risks when getting a used car like that I'm sure. Plus, I would probably be exchanging for something cheaper and therefore lose that difference in value.
- upgrading to a used EV:
I would love an EV (looking at Hyundai Ioniq 6s) because I know literally nothing about maintaining a vehicle and wouldn't have to pay so much for gas, but realistically exchanging this car would still cost me somewhere around $10,000 out of pocket---an investment I'm not sure is worthwhile.
Thank you for your input in advance!
TLDR; I'm getting a Honda Odyssey: should I stick with it, downsize to hybrid with better MPG, or invest in an EV?
