Two week post op and a question
I had my two weeks checkup for my ORIF surgery this past Thursday. I had a dislocation and a trimallelolar fracture with a tendon tear. i ended up with three different incisions - inside, back and outside of ankle. the outside ankle is as the longest of the incisions. no issues getting stitches out, even though they asked if needed breaks. I was given a book and have been told to work on range of motion and stay non weight bearing for four weeks.
obviously a lot of swelling means limited range of motion. when the nurse did my boot, she was pretty much expecting my foot and leg to sit at a perfect 90 degree angle. it was painful to say the least. my question - is it normal that my foot won’t conform to the bottom and back of the boot? trying to move my foot so it would sit flat is out of my range of motion - I can feel the back incision so much when I try to get it back.
anyways, y’all have been so helpful. I’m thinking it’s the way my swelling is and it should get better with my continued elevation and better icing than I did with the post surgery splint. i finally ordered some new ice packs that stay cold for eight hours because my family and I would forget to put them back in my he freezer.
Mentally, I’m good most days. I’ve had a few cries, but I’m focusing on this range of motion and hoping to see Improvement before my next check up. and hoping I can start walking in the boot come June 4!
