I’m currently in my 2nd gig with a third party recruiting firm.
The first one lasted for six years and went phenomenal and my current company is taking great care of me from a support and pretty fair comp.
However, I say pretty fair because when I really do the numbers on the amount of money, I brought into the company when I get a placement, it’s just really hard to justify putting in these long hours for someone else regardless of the commission when I could do the same thing under any name for myself and make significantly more while just sacrificing benefits.
I know it is easier said than done, but I’m used to putting in 12+ hours a day and working on and off the clock.
I’ve just been doing some Number crunching and I don’t feel that it’s logical to let someone else be able to have control over my finances and the ability to fire me when they themselves only have a company of about 20 people.
Both of the external firms that I worked at have been roughly 20 to 50 people depending on time period with Covid and whatnot.
On my own, one or two placements would likely pay me more.
Forgive me if this is a little bit Jr as this is a new idea, and please feel free to share if I’m missing anything, but if you were in my shoes with no dependents and single (29 yr old, Male), would you still take the safety note of working with a firm or just take the leap and start my own?
I’m not asking how to start it because I understand that process. I’m asking if it’s feasible and if the trade-off is worthwhile.
Thank you in advance from someone who just wants to continue growing themselves personally and professionally.
