I have a bit of confusion surrounding my visa. I'm a Canadian citizen currently living in the Basque Country working as an English teacher in a small town here on a Youth Mobility Visa (under the working holiday category). My visa is from mid October 2025 until mid October 2026.
I started working in December 2025 and have a contract until June 2026. I've been seeing in some conversations that under this visa you cannot work for the same employer for longer than 6 months. However, nowhere on the Spanish government's site that talks about this agreement between Canada and Spain can I find the proof of that. I am technically starting on my 6th month right now and if that's the case I'd like to try and solve it now.
The job also offered me a position for the next school year (September 2026-June 2027) and they can provide the document that in the area we're in they cannot find sufficient candidates.
So my questions are:
If anyone has been in a similar situation, is there any possibility to get an extension to work for the same employer?
Is it possible to change the YMV to Work Visa?
And if it is, can I do it while here or do I have to travel back to Canada to do so?
