How has your international school handled teachers dealing with mental health issues?

Hey everyone,

I'm curious to hear how this is handled at other international schools.

At my current school, we had a teacher take some time off mid-year for mental health reasons. We are unsure if they will be back next academic year.

It made me realize I don't really know what the "norm" is across international schools. Some are great with staff wellbeing, others seem to avoid the topic entirely.

So for those of you who've seen this come up:

  1. *What was your school's official policy or process? Was there clear leave/support available?

  2. *How was it communicated to students, parents, and other staff? Was it transparent or kept quiet?

  3. *Do you feel the teacher was supported when they returned, or was there stigma?

I'm not looking for every question to be answered, and please don't give names or specifics, just trying to get a sense of different approaches and what actually works well in practice.

How has it played out at your school?
