I am currently teaching in Los Angeles and going to be laid off due to my school closing. I have not been applying for another teaching job for the upcoming school year. I am wondering if anyone has taken time off from teaching (1-2 years) and returned to the profession? Is it unlikely for a district to hire you if you have not actively taught in a year or two? I want to explore my options but I do not want to jeopardize my chances of being rehired somewhere else in the future. I am hearing different things from different people and would love some input.
