Is overnights worth it?
Hello fellow associates. I wanted to ask about overnights as a whole, because my wife and I were thinking about swapping over to overnights (we work closing shift). Both her and I get subjected to stuff that her and I aren't too crazy about.
She gets thrown around different parts of the store back and forth (grocery and HBA namely) almost constantly, and is basically not allowed to work in the area they switched her to. Her coach alleges that it's because she's still technically under her old area, in the system, and refuses to switch her to the area she works now. Her days are very unpredictable, and she's constantly everywhere and nowhere in the store.
I have to deal with coworkers who basically know nothing about my department whatsoever (even basic things about product that should be common sense or already learned knowledge), and end up being the only dependable person in my area. I also usually end up having to be the bullet shield when it comes to customers, to the point that I constantly get yelled at and cussed at by people. Lastly, i am generally the only person who actually takes care of my department. I'm one of the only people who zones, and the only person who takes care of the special parts of our zone (photo lab). I also stand in for our team lead on a regular basis because he's never present. My department is incredibly neglected by my management, and my coach and team lead are never really held accountable.
Both her and I have raised our concerns to our coaches, but they never take action, or just brush us off. We've both helped overnighters stock, and have pulled freight out for them. I know how to bin things, and keep things orderly in the bins. We have a handful of overnighters that think we would both be a great fit. But the question remains, is the transition really worth it? Are there perhaps things that her and I should know about overnights that people aren't telling us? I know it'll vary from every store, but I just wanted some input on this.
