Tips on learning vocabulary?

Vocabulary (together with pronunciation) seems to be my main pitfall when learning Arabic, probably because Arabic vocab is so much different from the other languages I know (English and Dutch).

I'm wondering if anyone can give me tips on increasing my vocab?
