Sudden increase of kW consumption
Just seeking some advice. We are currently renting a small low-rise condominium unit that’s only suitable for two people. Recently, we’ve noticed that our electricity bills seem unusually high for our situation.
During our first few months, our bill was around ₱2,000+, which felt reasonable. When 2026 came and electricity rates increased due to economic factors, we understood that our bill would also rise, and we were okay when it reached around ₱3,000+.
However, things became concerning when our bill suddenly jumped to almost ₱5,000 last month, and now it has reached around ₱5,500.
Both of us work at a hospital, so we’re usually out of the unit for most of the day. Because of this, our electricity usage is quite minimal. We also made an effort to reduce our consumption even more. The only appliances we regularly use are the air conditioner, refrigerator, and a fan when the aircon is not in use.
Despite these efforts, our bill continues to increase. When we checked our kWh consumption, we noticed that it has suddenly doubled over the past two months compared to our usual usage, which doesn’t match our actual lifestyle at home.
We’re trying to understand what could be causing this sudden increase and if there might be an issue with the meter, wiring, or something else.
