normal healing or early peri-implantitis? (X-rays included)
I am currently on a 4-month road trip abroad, so I don’t have easy access to my usual dentist.
I had a dental implant placed in Brazil at the end of March (by the dentist I am still in contact with).
Recently, I went for a routine check-up with a dentist in Chile to make sure everything was fine, and she gave me the following radiological assessment:
“extensa pérdida ósea, osteitis peri-implantaria.”
I then contacted the Brazilian dentist who placed the implant. He told me that it is not possible for it to be an infection, that otherwise the implant would have been expelled, and that it is likely just part of the healing process. He also mentioned that a proper clinical examination would be necessary to confirm anything, and asked whether I have pain or any discharge.
Currently:
I don’t have significant pain
I don’t have any pus or discharge
I’m a bit concerned because the radiology report and my dentist’s opinion seem to differ.
Given this situation, does this look like normal healing or early peri-implantitis/bone loss?
Also, considering I am traveling for several more months, would this situation require urgent care or even returning home, or can it reasonably be monitored for now?
Thank you very much for your time and help.
