Diego Polaris/Spoiler Signs
>!So I’ve been digging through the sub reddits about different signs showing that he was a Nymph and no one is talking about suspicious timing/behavior trailed onto some additional nymph encounters.!<
- >!There’s a lot of discourse about the bar scene where Sophia drank all the beverages and Diego freaks out indicating that he most likely drugged the beverages. But the part that gets me is that shortly after they part ways and the girls encounter the darkness and Diego is suspiciously adamant about meeting back up with them and asking where they are. I believe he was the darkness that tried attacking and was trying to locate them to finish the job. He took the opportunity to snag Geraldine’s power most likely out of convenience or perhaps she saw him transform and tried to end her and somehow made her forget the encounter when she was being healed.!<
- >!Shortly after astrology class when Darcy was walking back to Aer tower, she noticed she forgot her Atlas before walking alone in the woods with Diego. He was adamant about going back with her and lo and behold almost immediately after she arrives, there’s a nymph attack on her. I believe Diego followed her was the one that tried to attack her.!<
- >!Diego was acting all kinds of strange and hostile at the fair when he couldn’t get either of the Vega girls alone with him. I do believe he was starting to have feelings for Darcy, but I think the frustration and anger stemmed more from being angry with himself that he couldn’t prove himself to his family to “finish the job” and end the Vegas!<
- >!Orion single handedly was the one to save Geraldine during the nymph encounter, and saved Darcy on multiple occasions. I think a core part of Diego’s hate towards Orion is from him being the one to stop Diego’s attacks on multiple occasions and has tried to shake it off under the guise of having feelings for Darcy. Both things could be true, but I think Orion was a repetitive hurdle that he couldn’t overcome power during these attacks, plus Orion bullied him at every turn which was the cherry on top making him feel even worse about himself.!<
- >!Diego was present at the pitball stadium attack and flew off with Sophia. At this point, I believe he was responsible for letting the other nymphs in, knowing that the Vegas would be there, but was feeling regret and tried to get Tory to escape with him on Sophia as a way to redeem himself.!<
- >!I hesitate to believe that he believed the vision of Darcy being tortured was true. I find it strange that when he finally was able to get a hold of Tory, that he didn’t even suggest getting back up before heading to Darcy. I immediately was suspicious when they got to the Orion household and he grabbed her hand trying to take pause in suggesting she doesn’t go inside. He either knew it was a fake vision to get her there and was trying to be a good boy to prove himself to his family, or speculated that that it may be fake and was having second thoughts about the encounter and was trying to protect Tory by back pedaling on going inside!<
- >!After the Ass friends were drinking on a Tuesday at the Orb and Tory got sloshed, it’s def suspicious and slightly implied that she was drugged. Despite Diego seeming like he was trying to help her, he was very upset about letting Darius take her away. As a reader it would be easy to think he’s being protective as a friend or as a crush, but Diego was insisting he could carry her out himself. I think if Diego was able to take her outside, this was when he would have tried to probe her and take her magic. She was drugged by him and he was trying to set up an opportunity for an attack.!<
>!There are many instances throughout the book where Diego tries to get alone with either of the twins and it’s played off as romantic interest. I don’t think he ever had feelings for Sophia and was just trying to use that “relationship” as a crutch or entry point into the Vegas life. He never once was willing to commit to Sophia and was very unbothered about her seeking affection elsewhere out of hopes of getting with the Vegas, aka getting alone and attacking them!<
>!I do think by the end of the book he truly had a change of heart about completing his mission to end the Vegas and considered them friends, but suffered a complicated inner struggle throughout the first 5 books fighting between trying to prove to his family that he wasn’t a disappointment and could do what was asked of him, and also discovering what friendship and love/caring truly looks like and not wanting to be a disappointment as a friend to the people that actually cared about him!<
