Revolution 9 Hazing
Did anyone else get hazed by having number 9 played on repeat?
A few years ago when I joined a fraternity, part of our hazing process was being locked in a pitch black room with the first part of revolution 9 “number 9, number 9, number 9…” on repeat.
Having been a life long Beatles fan before this, I was really surprised I didn’t know it was actually from a Beatles album.
It wasn’t until I was at work one day and decided to listen to the white album in its entirety. As “cry baby cry” comes to an end my boss begins to talk to me about a project we’re working on. It was a quick approach so I didn’t pause my music or take my headphone out. All of the sudden I just begin to hear “number 9… number 9…. Number 9….” I basically froze. I felt like I was having a moment of schizophrenia where in reality I had never even left the pitch black room after all these years. Luckily the conversation was short and when he walked away I was sitting there in disbelief. I had to do a double take and restart revolution 9 to make sure I understood what I was hearing.
Just curious if anyone else got a similar treatment when pledging. I know nyan cat and some other songs are popular for activities like that so I thought revolution 9 was pretty creative.
