And I’m off
Hello everyone,
I'm happy to say I've just started my Mounjaro journey. I'm only 4 days in on 2.5mg and, thankfully, I've had very few side effects so far. After reading so many stories and warnings online, I was expecting things to be much worse. That said, I know it's still early and my body is only just getting used to the medication.
Because I'm impatient and excited to see progress, I've already lost 3kg. I know a lot of that is probably water weight, and I may have gone a little hard too quickly with my diet. My starting weight was 130kg and I'm currently sitting at 126.5kg. I've also been drinking around 4-5 litres of water per day.
My biggest question is around diet and finding something sustainable.
I'm worried about burning myself out by trying to be too strict. Interestingly, my doctor told me not to change too much initially and instead focus on hitting around 150g of protein per day, staying hydrated, and letting the medication do its job. That sounds sensible, but it's easier said than done when you're excited to lose weight and don't want to make mistakes.
At the moment, I'm aiming to walk 2km every morning, which has been manageable. Today I had:
Breakfast: 2 Weet-Bix, a protein shake, and some Chobani high-protein yoghurt
Lunch: Brown rice with about 150g of chicken I meal-prepped yesterday
Dinner: A Guzman y Gomez bowl
The constant battle in my head is trying to find the balance between eating enough and not overeating. Part of me worries that every calorie will slow my progress, but I also know I need to hit around 130-150g of protein per day, which can be difficult without increasing calories.
For those who have been successful on Mounjaro, how did you find a routine that was both effective and sustainable? Did you focus on calories, protein, exercise, or just listen to your hunger cues?
I'd also be interested to hear what vitamins or supplements you took, if any, and why you chose them. Did you find anything particularly helpful for maintaining energy levels, hydration, muscle retention, digestion, or overall health while losing weight?
I'd love to hear what worked for you, especially in the early weeks when you were trying to figure everything out without going too hard and burning out.
