Got a congratulations email from Asda, passed my DBS, then got rejected days later — what is going on?

I need some advice because I'm genuinely confused.

Interviewed for a Customer Delivery Driver role at Asda on the 9th. Interview was quick and informal, they scanned my driving licence there and then, and said I'd hear back about next steps.

A couple days later I get an email literally saying "Congratulations - we are delighted that you would like to join the team here at Asda." It told me to complete my right to work and safeguarding checks through First Advantage, which I did straight away.

Both my DBS and Right to Work checks came back PASSED the next day. At this point I'm thinking great, I've got the job, just waiting on the contract.

Then a couple of days later, boom, rejection email saying the vacancy's been filled, and my Workday portal switches to unsuccessful.

I raised a candidate query through OneAsda and called them a few times but a generic responses of them saying they're either gonna call back or contact the hiring team etc

So now I'm stuck wondering Is this a known Asda Workday glitch? Why would they pay to run a DBS check on me if they weren't hiring me?

Has this happened to anyone else? Did you manage to sort it out or did you just move on? Any advice appreciated because I don't know whether to chase it or let it go.
