So. I dated my ex from roughly 2019/2020-2024/2025. Might not be entirely accurate since the years blurred together, but it was a while, at least 5-6 years. About a year or two into the relationship, he gifted me a promise ring. I still have the christmas card where it says something akin to “A promise/reminder for the future”, but nothing other than that. Important to note, he lives on the other side of the country and we have NEVER met in person. Our break up was clean, but I stopped talking to him because we had just grown apart. As relationships do. NOW he’s asking for the promise ring back. We’ve been broken up for over a year now. Am I correct in thinking that after this long, there’s not much he can do about it? I don’t want to get in legal trouble over a ring, but I also feel like it’s a little petty to ask for it back after this long.
