Question about international shipping to Germany
Hi all, I’m having trouble understanding the customs rules and hoping someone with more experience can weigh in.
I sold an item valued at roughly 1500 usd a couple of months ago to a buyer in Germany. The package was returned to sender because of an incomplete customs declaration (I believe I forgot to sign it). Anyway, I have the package in my possession now and am wanting to make sure it doesn’t get sent back a second time. When reading through the usps customs page for Germany I noticed this line of text
“Germany will not accept any Priority Mail Express International or Priority Mail International insured item valued at more than $500. Items valued at more than $500 will be returned to sender.”
Obviously my item is valued at 3X this price. Should I declare its value as less than $500? Or will I get in trouble? I went to my post office and asked this question and the worker was rather rude and told me to value at $495. I don’t think this is the correct way to do it though?
One other thing, I noticed this line of text as well
“For Priority Mail International parcels, an invoice, in duplicate, is required for all commercial shipments regardless of value and all personal shipments valued at $300 or more. The invoices must be affixed to the outside of the parcel or may be enclosed in PS Form 2976-E with the customs declaration.”
Where do I get an invoice? When I purchased my first label there was no option to print such a thing. Is the invoice part of the customs declaration somehow or something separate that I must generate?
Thanks in advance everyone
