UI/UX insanity: Seat change requiring recheck-in every time

Southwest’s seat change process is incredibly annoying and clunky. Every time you want to change your seat within 24 hours of the flight, you have to recheck-in, input your email address and get a new boarding pass and boarding group. Whoever designed this will single-handedly ensure SW loses customers to the majors. United, Delta etc. allow you to make seat changes freely and even within 1 hour of the flight, whereas SW locks this within 1 hour. What a joke.
