Horse sustained a severe injury, likely won’t be safely rideable again. What are some helpful tips to get into liberty training? I’d like to teach voice cues and maybe some tricks to keep his mind occupied

If anyone has helpful videos and personal experience please let me know! Any tips on how to teach lay down or have the horse move without touching him will be super helpful too!

I love this horse very much, and I would like to find other ways on the ground to bond other than me lunging or just general play

Horse had surgery to scope and realign cartilage after an injury. It’s been 6 months and he still will not pick up his hind leg where they performed surgery.

I need help in encouraging him to lift this leg for hoof picking and trimming. It’s very difficult to even get it up and the farrier needs to be able to lift it. He’s been able to manage with trims so far, but it feels like a battle to just show him it won’t hurt anymore. I’ve just started him on poles(with a longe line) this month and some raised poles to encourage him to lift. He seems to act fine then but for picking and trimming refuses to lift. He knows what I want because he lifts his other hind leg instead and has no trouble applying pressure.
After the initial injury we did an mri and X-rays and the only thing off was the cartilage which has now already had surgery.
I really just need help in rehabilitating him and encouraging he lift that leg when I ask.

I have had a vet out biweekly ever since the injury happened. I’ve been told to have him start real work this month instead of light 10 minute lunges.
