Question

When did 40gals become the standard for a single axolotl?

I remember a few years ago, most people were recommending 20s. I always had an issue with that bc people tend to overfeed and not plant their tanks. Plus with substrate and decor, the volume of a 20 diminishes quickly.

Bc of this, I set my guy up with a 30 gallon aquarium and he's thriving. Yet people keep INSISTING that 40 is the bare minimum.

Where is the science to back up this claim?

Or are people just being size queens about their tanks? 😆

My goldfish lives in a 55. Based off that logic, the 40breeder people should be pushing 55s for single axolotls.

Not hating on the 40breeder people. Those are great. Just wanna know why thats the new industry standard. Bc lots of newbies only have the money and resources for 20-30gals. And they deserve to enjoy the hobby as well.

Let me know your genuine thoughts on the matter. Thanks!
