Yonkers Waterfront Residents: Has the Area Been Getting Worse Lately?

I wanted to see if other residents around the Yonkers waterfront/luxury apartment area have been noticing the same thing lately.

Over the past several months, there seems to be a visible increase in homelessness around the area. I’ve recently seen people sleeping around residential buildings, near storefronts, and today I even found someone sleeping inside my apartment building’s parking area. I’ve also noticed more people sleeping on the waterfront benches late at night and early in the morning.

Beyond that, there’s also been a noticeable increase in noise, large groups hanging around late at night, and people spending time around the waterfront and residential areas who don’t appear to actually live in the buildings nearby.

I want to be clear that I understand people are going through difficult situations and I’m not trying to dehumanize anyone or shame people experiencing homelessness. At the same time, the increase has become concerning from a resident and quality-of-life perspective, especially in heavily residential areas.

What can realistically be done to help secure the area while also addressing the homelessness issue? Would increased patrol presence, a permanent police vehicle near the waterfront, more outreach programs, or other solutions help? Curious to hear if other residents have noticed the same thing lately and what ideas people think would actually improve the situation.

Hey I just recently moved to Yonkers and would love to find a creative space for artists, musicians, or a studio that can be booked for recording purposes. I’m a producer, engineer and music composer and I would love to connect with fellow creatives. Thank you in advance!
