Between firing half their marketing staff, the ad pop up, price increases, and bad UI design, en-shitification is really showing I think it's time to move on from YNAB.

I liked the app for what it once was but the cracks from en-shitification is showing for a budgeting app of all things. Like.. maybe create better reports but I guess causing friction with your users is the play in 2026?

And letting go the faces of your app was a pretty stupid idea especially given how influential and inspirational they were to your users. Sounds like the senior leadership is so out of touch and I'd rather not fill the wallet of a CEO who can't stop talking about saving your money to buy Teslas.

Edit: seems like sentiment from YNAB employees about senior leadership is also terrible. They play favourites and make for a very toxic work culture

Edit 2: There are some great alternatives discussed below. I personally opted for Actual Budget due to its open source nature (and free if self hosted). I'm also a developer so having the option to contribute definitely had an influence on my decision here.

Also to the wonderful current and former employees that made YNAB what it was. Thank you for making such a wonderful app, creating great content, and being so engaging with us. You definitely deserve the credit even if the foolish senior leadership want it all for themselves.
