My AuDHD assessment was only for an hour, is this normal?
I am 30F living in New Zealand.
My assessment consisted of two 30-minute appointments with a psychiatrist who is still in training. While they are able to provide a diagnosis, they are not qualified to provide a formal report.
During the first appointment, I was asked about some of my social and sensory difficulties, as well as how I generally function. Prior to the second appointment, I was asked to complete the RAADS-R (scoring over 150), the AQ (scoring over 40), and the CAT-Q, which indicated a high level of masking.
When I attended the second appointment, the psychiatrist did not look at the questionnaires. I had expected we would discuss the results in more detail, including how the specific challenges described in the questionnaires relate to my own experiences, but there was no discussion at all.
In addition, no further questions were asked during the second appointment, meaning that all exploration of my developmental history and related concerns was confined to the first session.
When I asked whether I am autistic, the question was largely dismissed. The only response I received was that I have autism-related characteristics and know how to mask, but individuals with higher support needs (level 2 and 3 specifically)would typically have been identified in early childhood, and that I could go see a psychologist for support.
I'm not entirely sure what to take away from the psychiatrist's comments. I also don't understand why didn't they conduct a full autism assessment. I was not asked to go back for a third appointment. Can an AuDHD assessment even be made in an hour?
If it matters, I did get an ADHD diagnosis from them since the assessment was more focused on ADHD.
I'm wondering whether it would be worth it to seek a second opinion and get a more comprehensive assessment that includes a report.
Would honestly appreciate some insights into how AuDHD/ASD assessments are generally like.
Thanks.
