Looking for some help for 21-day Costa Rica trip. (insured vehicle rental or private driver)
Hi everyone,
I’ll be traveling through Costa Rica for about 21 days, and I’m trying to figure out the best transportation option.
I keep getting quotes from the car companies for $1200-$1600, and I don't have it nor am I willing to pay it.
I’m looking for either:
- An insured vehicle rental
Ideally, a reliable SUV or 4x4, but will take AWD
Fully insured for a foreign driver or gray area, I run a business, and I don't mind working with someone. I own a transportation company where I drive 20k/32k miles/KM per year and have a clean record
Available for around 21 days
Pickup/drop-off can be flexible (Preferred Liberia, Drop in San Jose).
OR
- A private driver based in the central part of the country.
When I was in Belize, we had two amazing guys who were private drivers and came and did everything perfectly for a very reasonable price.
- I may only need around 5–6 longer rides total over the 21 days
- Route will likely include areas such as Liberia, Santa Teresa, Monteverde, Arenal, Manuel Antonio, and San José
- As long as you are licensed to drive and normal, don't care about anything else.
I just want to explore options outside of the large rental companies because the 21-day rental quotes have been extremely expensive.
Plus, I would rather give my money to another person and not some corporation.
If anyone has recommendations for reliable local companies, insured private vehicle rentals, or trusted drivers who may be interested, I would really appreciate it.
Cheers,
