Yesterday I finally got fitted for a pessary (ring) and it was rather a "traumatic" experience. First of all, I had to get a new gyn after my previous one retired right before I was to be fitted. So far, I don't like my new gyn and this experience added to my disdain for her. Inserting the first pessary for fitting went better than expected but then when she removed it - so painful!! She sort of was like "oh, sorry but it is just like that..." and then continued to the next size to see how that felt. Again, insertion was fine but I was still stinging from the removal of the first...so hard to determine if that one felt better but I did think it gave me a little more support. But then the removal was just - if not more painful. YIKES! I decided on going with the second size so she gave me the ring that would be mine to try to insert. Again, no problem to insert but then she wanted me to try remove it. NOPE - I couldn't even reach it and was worried that I had inserted it too high but she checked and said it was fine and I felt like she was starting to get frustrated with me because I was obviously struggling and just kept saying I couldn't reach it - I couldn't grab it...and so she then was like "okay, well do you want to just come in to the office for us to remove"? WHAT?! Can you give me a minute? In any case, I just left at that point and said I would figure it out. Needless to say I was very shaken but the whole experience...driving home fretting how in the world would I ever remove this? And my plan had always been to use it intermittently (when needed bc my prolapse isn't too bad) so I was frustrated that I couldn't necessarily remove it daily. At bedtime I was able to remove it myself and it was not as painful but still uncomfortable. When I awoke this morning I still felt very sore (I left it out overnight) and cramping and then an hour later I had some spotting. Ugh. I reported to my gyn and she didn't really have much to offer. I will hold off reinserting it for a couple days in hopes my system settles down and try again. But I was curious if others had any experience with pain and/or spotting after removing a pessary in the beginning.
