Anybody here a speech pathologist or English teacher?

Anybody here have experience as an English teacher or speech pathologist and mind talking about what their day-to-day looks like (and what your education was like)? Currently in the middle of changing my major and would love to hear some input!

Waistbeads in African American culture?

I’ve been considering getting waistbeads after seeing a friend who always wore them with her outfits! However, I‘m wondering if they have any cultural relevance to AA culture? I’ve seen a lot about how they’re important in some African cultures, but I also see a lot of AA girls wear them too. Is it just one of those things that Black American girls have adopted over time? I’m aware that waistbeads can have specific meanings for some African cultures.

For my keloid prone folk

For those who are prone to getting keloids on their ear piercings, have you had any luck with getting new piercings (or have you been successful getting piercings in different area such as your nose or face)?

My dermatologist has recommended not to get anymore after a keloid formed on my helix and 2nd lobes (which was honestly so devastating because I had a whole LAYOUT for my ears and nose) 🙁

So it's unfortunate, but I'm probably done with getting piercings

Writing that sounds more like a script/stage directions

I’ll preface this by saying that yes, this can be combated by obviously reading books and writing more.

With that aside, what are some things that make whatever book you’re reading sound more like a movie script rather than an actual story?

Classics vs more modern lit

Everyone always says to “read more” if you want to improve your writing (sound advice). But I’ve heard some people say to specifically read classics, because obviously most of those books will be well written (hence being called ”classics”). But what if the genre you‘re writing about doesn’t remotely relate to how classic books sound? Or what if simply don’t like reading them?

Curious to what you guys think about this advice🤔

Struggling with Intro?

Anybody else here struggle with writing their intros? I tend to write a lot of shorter works, but the first few paragraphs are always a pain. I know a lot of people say to finish the rest of the draft and loop back around to the intro, but personally that just doesn't work for me. I guess it's just hard to make it sound engaging without coming off as too cliche or "cringe" (for lack of a better word). Any advice? What's your approach to writing your intros? Good conclusions are also kinda hard to write, but that's a post for another day honestly.

Has anybody here ever gotten a scholarship from this school? Considering transferring here from a community college, so I know transfer students probably have less scholarships that they are available to apply too in general. Does Chico state give out full rides? Just looking for someone who has any experience with getting a scholarship from this school though. Thanks
