My Boyfriend is Addicted to Vyvanse. What should I do?
I’m 20f and my boyfriend (21m) is addicted to Vyvanse. It’s ruining our relationship.
A few weeks ago, he ran out of a bottle of 50mg Vyvanse after just two weeks. So he was taking at least 2-3 a day. When he confessed to me, he was completely distraught and upset himself. He told me he really wants to get better, and we talked about it a lot.
I really felt bad for him because they are so addictive. However I also know this is a really big red flag, as he was lying to me about how many he was taking.
I forgave him for lying because he was so distressed and sorry.
I want support him, and I think he’s a really good man other than this issue. We’re both very I love and otherwise happy in our relationship.
So I reassured him that it would be okay and we decided that I would look after the next bottle he got. I also gave him some of my own Vyvanse (I’m only on 20mg) because we’re doing uni and he can barely function without it. It was enough so that he could have one every two days until he could next go to the pharmacy.
Then on Saturday (last night) I went away for the night with some friends, and when I came back today he told me he got another bottle. He said he’d managed to get one 10 days before it was due to be dispensed.
I asked him if he’d felt a strong urge to take multiple, and how he’d been going with having so many again. He told me he hadn’t taken any yesterday, and that he’d had one today. I was so relieved!
Anyway, tonight I went to grab his bottle of them so I could look after them. I counted just to double check.
he’s already taken 6.
I am so upset because I feel like I really can’t trust him. I love him so much but it’s genuinely destroying my trust in him.
I don’t know what to do. Should I look after him, should I tell his family, should I break up with him?? I just want to forgive him, but that’s what I did last time and i don’t want to keep making the same mistakes.
