WIBTA if I called the cops after multiple packages have been stolen from people?
I (19F) live with my little brother (18M) and parents (48) in a new apartment complex. The building itself started to be built in 2024 and everyone had received the key somewhere in October 2025, so everyone living there is new. My grandmother (71F) and grandpa (72M) do too, but in a different apartment. We live in the Netherlands.
For the past half a year there have been multiple packages stolen or broken into. We have a groupchat for the people living here, so when a package was stolen we would hear it from there, with both picture evidence or otherwise. Yesterday my package had been stolen.
For context, I had let my parents know that there was a package expected for me between 9:00 to 14:00, my package had been marked as delivered at 11:53, yet when I got home it wasn’t there. I asked my parents and they told me they didn’t hear a doorbell either. So this could’ve been a case of neglect by the parcel’s company as well.
That said I don’t doubt one bit that someone within the apartment building has stolen it, as previously stated this has happened before to multiple other people. There was another time where my package and someone else’s were broken into but left on the ground probably because it didn’t have much value, as mine was a manga volume and the other I do not know.
Here’s the reason why I think I would be in the wrong for calling the police; I do not actually live there, at least I don’t pay the bills. The apartment belongs to my parents and I don’t want to ruin their reputation by getting the police involved. This building already hates each other, as there is a clear conflict between the owners of the penthouses, the actual buyers like my family and the renters. Everyone already dislikes each other enough and I do not want to make it worse. But it has been going on for months at this point, and there still has not been a single camera hung up in the main hall.
It is legal and even encouraged to call the police when multiple people have had issues with packages being stolen, so it’s not a legal matter. I just do not want to sour things for my parents for a 20euros package.
