Hello guys,

My TN visa status just got approved in the USCIS website. This is the first time I am applying through TN and it’s the first time I’m going to work in the USA. The company that is hiring me went through premium processing. From what I understand, USCIS will send the I-797 document to the company and then they will send it to my home address. I am travelling with my wife and 2 children who will be entering US on TD visa. We all are Canadian citizens.

I have the following questions:

  1. Once I receive the I-797 document, should I go to a POE to get the TN & TDs stamped or is it better to go to YYZ airport? The risk I see with the airport option is that, if for some reason, there is a problem, then we’ll miss the flight and waste the cost of tickets (though it’s paid by the company). Since we are travelling with two small kids, I believe stamping the TN/TD visas at the Airport, will it be time consuming/long wait process compared to a POE?

  2. Can we drive to a POE (say Niagara), get the TN and TDs stamped, and then drive back to our home in Toronto the same day? In this case after a week we intend to travel to USA by flight, through tickets provided by the company.

  3. Is there a 10-day rule by which we are only allowed to get the TN and TDs stamped at a POE before 10 days of the joining date? If so where can I find a link/reference to this rule?

  4. For those who went through Premium Processing option, what was your experience on getting TN, TD visa stamped at the POE/Airport? Is there a separate line or faster process to get the visa stamped, if it went through premium processing?

  5. Any tips on do’s and don’ts when travelling with family/kids?

  6. Any advice on list of documents to carry? Is there a website/thread that specifies a comprehensive list of documents?

Thanks 🙂 (& please pardon my ignorance)
