What are some "gentleman" jobs that still exist (at low entry)?

I always see in these old books and movies that people could just walk into a tailor shop or museum and ask for a job there, and if you looked decent and had a good attitude they'd hire you.

So I'm wondering two things:

  1. What can be defined as these "gentleman" jobs? (ofc its more to do with how one carries themselves, but you'd not label a big corp storeworker (bless them) and a university professor under the same genre)

  2. How much of that "walk in, make a good impression, start tomorrow" sort of thing still exists for jobs? I've applied to so many online and barely even get a response, and it seems useless to spend all that traversing time/money to just get rejected at even antique bookstore jobs or local cinema's. Even with a decently received bachelor.
