Ursodiol Success! For now..

I’ve been taking Ursodiol since late 2023 or so, as a “let’s see what happens” after I refused surgery. I was young and quite healthy so they weren’t too insistent.

I drastically changed my diet to be low fat and reduced my portion sizes and lost a fair amount of weight. Attacks became very infrequent and lighter, maybe once or twice and not terribly painful last year.

I went for a yearly ultrasound and the doctors were a bit conflicted but after some discussion between them concluded that they didn’t really see gallstones, but I still have some sludge. Now they want me to take ursodiol for half a year and then get off it for another half year to see if the stones will come back.

I know I’m very lucky to have a milder case than most people here, but if anyone else is on this path just wanted to share in case it helps. It took a while and I’m not sure if I’ll succeed in keeping it gone but it does work! For now at least! I now eat a bit more fat, I’m still fairly avoidant of anything too fatty, but I no longer obsess over it. I do have some minor indigestion after fatty foods but I guess that’s normal.
