Canister filter intake location

Setting up fluval 307 on a 40 breeder. Tank is fairly heavily planted. Is it ok to have the intake in the back corner behind wood/ plants or is this going to significantly reduce the filtration capacity? I like this setup for aesthetic purposes, but I also want to make sure it is functional.

Canister filter anxiety

I tried to get away with 2 50G rated sponge filters alone for my 40 breeder, but I have so much particulate matter + corys stirring up mulm that I can’t take it anymore. I really value the quiet nature of my filter, so I feel like I’m left with a canister filter (never owned one before).

I have put it off because I’m terrified of flooding my new home.

I have a water alarm already in case any type of leak would happen, but I was considering going so far as putting the canister in a large tub plus water alarm for extra redundancy. Obviously a large tub going to negatively impact the aesthetics. Just looking for advice.

Question about sock or not for perforated pipe

I have about 400 feet of yard that runs along the road that needs some form of drainage as it is rutting up and has areas of standing water. The entirety follows a gentle grade that should be amenable to a 4 inch perforated pipe.

My question is, if I use a non-woven filter fabric with the pipe sitting on top and backfill with pea gravel, does the perforated pipe require a filter sock?

I should note, it will not be an entire continuous 400 feet, rather about 120 feet each with culverts separating each of these stretches

Looking for a game for my son and I to play

My 6 year old and I play games together about 2 times per week. I got him Minecraft for Christmas and he loves it. We play both survival and creative mode. We have been playing on his switch (which in hindsight was not the right choice for Minecraft) but it has been a lot of fun for us.

My issue is it’s getting a little stale and I’m not enjoying myself as much as when we first started. I’d also like him to expand a bit so he doesn’t get sucked into one thing for the long term.

I’m looking for other games that may scratch that same adventure and discovery itch that we can play together. I have 2 gaming PCs and a gaming laptop so we have many more options than switch titles.

Any recs are appreciated!

Advice on moving forward

Looking for advice on my 40b

I’ve had this running about 3 months. Overall been happy with the scape and plant growth for low tech, but I’m having trouble with cloudy water/sand cap. Corys are obviously throwing up debris and seems to be keeping the water cloudy. Also, my cap keeps eroding from the slopes exposing the dirt and I have to keep re-capping but I feel like I’m losing the battle.

Should I just break it down and redo with aqua soil capped with sand? I’m considering but dreading the cost/work.

Substrate: dirt capped with 2-3in black diamond sand

Stock: 10 platys + fry, neos, 6 corys

Filtration: two 50 gal rated sponges filters cleaned in tank water ever 2-3 weeks with water change.

Feed twice daily.

I am about 2 months into my dirt capped tank. Most plants are past their melting stage.

From left to right back:
- bacopa
- ludwigia red
- water wisteria
- red tiger lotus
- hygrophila poly
- rotala rotundifilia
- Elodia anacharis

Along the front:
- helanthium tenellum
- cardinal plants between rocks
- limnophila mini on right
- susswasertang growing on driftwood

Is this a good setup? I wanted to make sure no adjustments or additions were recommended before I let it all grow in.

Specs: 40 breeder, sand capped dirt, no CO2, 10h light at 60%.

Just put this guy (I hope) in with a few females in a new shrimp only tank. This is one I bred in my home tank.

Hoping it’s a male to start new colony.

He did just eat some pellet which may be the coloration at the front.
