At my home course a public footpath runs through it, and yesterday I had to punch my ball out back to the fairway and my ball smashed into the yellow post directing where the public footpath goes, the ball then went into the bushes never to be seen again.

What’s the ruling?

Not sure if it’s a real rule or local rule what to do if it happened.
Was just a casual round so I just re hit my shot, like if my ball hit a power line I have to retake the shot.

Any thoughts?
