Mexican carriers -- what's your vetting process?
Running a small brokerage doing cross-border Mexico-US and the carrier vetting on the Mexican side has gotten scary the last 12 months. Two incidents in 2025 that cost real money one was a "carrier" with a SICT permit that turned out to be suspended, the other was stopped by the "police" and we had to pay a very large amount to release the driver and truck.
Curious what others are doing. Specifically:
How are you verifying Mexican carriers before tendering them a load? Are you actually checking SICT and SAT, or is it mostly trust + insurance cert + hope?
Have any of you been hit by a phantom carrier, double-brokering, or lapsed-insurance incident on the MX side this year?
Anyone using an app/platform that aactually have the SICT/SAT data?
What would you pay for a tool that gave you a real-time verdict on any Mexican carrier SICT, SAT, FMCSA, insurance, safety with monitoring and alerts? Or is this not a real problem worth solving?
Disclosure: I'm in the early stages of building something in this space and trying to figure out if it's a real problem worth solving or just my own bad luck. Genuine answers either way are appreciated.
