One of my favorite parts of slow travel happened after I got home

One thing I love about slow travel is the connections you make along the way. On a recent trip, I stayed in a small town for a few weeks and was lucky enough to be welcomed by some genuinely kind people.

They helped me settle in, recommended places I would never have found on my own and made me feel less like a visitor and more like part of the community. By the time it was time to leave, I felt like I was saying goodbye to friends rather than hosts.

After I returned home, I kept thinking about how much their hospitality had meant to me. I wanted to do something more than send a thank you message, so I arranged for a gift package to be delivered to them as a small token of appreciation.

A few days later, I received a message saying it had arrived and that it completely caught them by surprise.

It reminded me that one of the best things about slow travel isn't just the places you visit. It's the relationships you build and the opportunity to stay connected long after the journey is over.
