So I spent literally weeks in the university library digging through old census records, wills, and church registers to write this essay about local family lineages. My entire draft was handwritten and then typed up. Now Turnitin is flagging basic terms like 'heirloom' and 'paternal lineage' because other people also use those words. I feel like my hard research is being invalidated by an algorithm that doesn't understand context. Am I just screwed?
