Trying to understand if singing can be a realistic path
Hi everyone!
I’m f13 and currently the only soloist in my school choir, and singing is something I genuinely care about and want to develop further. I also really enjoy performing and being on stage in front of people, it’s something I genuinely love doing and feel confident in.
However, I often hear from my parents that music isn’t a “real” or stable career, which makes it difficult to know how seriously I should take it. I understand where they’re coming from, especially since I’m from South Africa and the creative industry can feel uncertain, but at the same time I also see people building real opportunities through music in different ways. I’m trying to figure out whether pursuing singing is realistically worth investing time and effort into at my age, or whether it’s better kept as a hobby alongside school.
Thank you!
