4 strand vs 8 strand casting distance.
Have any of you tested casting distance between 4-strand and 8-strand braid? If so, what were your results?
I recently watched a Salt Strong video where the original PowerPro (4-strand) outcast PowerPro V2 (8-strand). That got me curious, so I ran my own test using the same rod and reel setup, and I saw similar results—the original PowerPro consistently cast farther.
This surprised me because 8-strand braid is often marketed as smoother and better casting. Is the advantage of 8-strand mostly marketing, or have others seen the same thing?
Have you noticed similar results with other brands, or does this seem to be specific to PowerPro.
Edit: I also fly fish and new fly line technology has companies adding texture to fly lines like a golf ball to help with distance. Also I care a lot about distance because i primarily inshore/ surf fish.
