Can’t decide between df64v gen 2 and varia vs6 [800€ budget]
Hi everyone,
I’m currently deciding between the DF64V Gen 2 and the Varia VS6.
The DF64V Gen 2 would cost me around €400 with a 2-year warranty, while the Varia VS6 would be around €650 with a 1-year warranty.
I’m upgrading from a Fellow Opus and I’m looking for a more modern espresso profile. I really enjoy fruity and floral coffees, both straight and in milk drinks, but I still want some body. I’m not necessarily chasing maximum clarity or very thin shots.
My current thoughts:
DF64V Gen 2
- Cheaper
- Smaller footprint
- 64 mm burr ecosystem
- Faster shipping
- 2-year warranty
Varia VS6
- Looks much better to me
- Heavier and seems more solid/premium
- Stock burrs seem more focused on modern espresso than the DF64V DLC burrs
- Interesting burr options, although mostly within Varia’s own ecosystem
Has anyone used both, or upgraded from the Fellow Opus to either of these grinders?
I’d especially appreciate feedback on the stock burr taste profile, mainly clarity, body, sweetness, and how well they work with fruity/light-medium espresso.
